Baltic Sea Coast II subnetwork

The state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern awards the public transport services for the Baltic Coast II subnetwork with the lines RE9 Rostock central station - Stralsund central station - Sassnitz/Ostseebad Binz and RE10 Rostock central station - Stralsund central station - Züssow in electric traction for a performance-related contract period of thirteen years. Start of operation 12 December 2021 (annual timetable 2022), end of operation at the timetable change in December 2034 (last day of operation expected on 9 December 2034). The scope of services amounts to approx. 1.8 million train km per year. For the provision of the transport services, the vehicle fleet procured by the current contractor consisting of seven vehicles of the type Desiro ML from the manufacturer Siemens is to be used.

The contract was awarded to ODEG - Ostdeutsche Eisenbahn GmbH on 1 March 2021.

Warnow II subnetwork

The state awards the local rail passenger services for the Warnow II subnetwork with the lines S1 - S3 of the Rostock S-Bahn in electric traction (E-network) and the lines RB11 and RB12 in the Rostock hinterland in electric hybrid traction (H-network) over a performance-related contract period of 15 and 13 years respectively. The service provision will start from December 2024 (annual timetable 2025) for the E-network and from December 2026 (annual timetable 2027) for the H-network and will end for both network parts uniformly at the European annual timetable change in December 2039. After the full start of operations, the service volume will be approx. 3.4 million train km per year.

As a result of the award procedure, the transport services will continue to be provided by DB Regio AG, which has operated the network to date. On the Rostock S-Bahn, it is planned to refurbish the "TALENT 2" trains that are currently in use. The trains will undergo extensive modernisation and redesign. For the RB11 and 12, which will start in December 2026, new battery-electric vehicles (BEMU) of the type "FLIRT Akku" will be used - for the first time in the country - which will each be equipped with 99 seats and twelve bicycle stands. The public transport authority offers to assume the risk of reuse of these new vehicles after expiry of the transport contract to be awarded under certain conditions and to issue a reuse guarantee.

On 17 February 2022, the contract was awarded to DB Regio AG, Regio Nordost.

Subnetwork Baltic Coast West bridging (December 2021 - December 2025) + Option

Notice is given in accordance with the Official Journal of the EU (reference TED 2021/S020-048448) by the public transport authorities in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg of the intended award of a public service contract within the framework of a competitive procedure pursuant to Art. 5 (3b) of Regulation 1370/2007.

From the timetable change on 12 December 2021, transport services on the RE1 line with a volume of approx. 2.2 to 2.3 million train km per year in total are to be provided on the rail line Rostock central station - Schwerin central station - Büchen - Hamburg central station by all participating providers. As a result of the specific framework conditions, the contract is subject to unchangeable requirements, which already had to be demonstrated in the expression of interest procedure. The contracting authorities have an option to extend the term of the transport contract twice by one timetable year on each occasion. When the contract was awarded, the first option was exercised for the timetable year 2026, so that the contract term extends over 5 years until the timetable change in December 2026.

On 29 November 2021, the contract was awarded to DB Regio AG, Regio Nordost.
