Rail Day: Fascination Railways- a celebration of the industry from 15 to 17 September 2023

Press release of the Ministry of Economy, Infrastructure, Tourism and Labour

The "Day of the Rail" starts on 15 September 2023 and is part of the "European Mobility Week". Here, the railway industry presents itself nationwide in all its diversity. In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and throughout Germany, events will take place that focus on the railways and the railways. This year's Rail Day is once again being coordinated by the Pro-Rail Alliance. The industry will open its factory gates, provide insights into current construction projects or advertise the exciting career field of local rail passenger transport. "We want a mobility turnaround for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Among other things, this means that local public transport and rail passenger transport should be climate-friendly, safe, comfortable and affordable for all citizens. Through the numerous activities, the Day of the Rail offers all interested parties a good opportunity to get to know the services on offer on the tracks better," said Reinhard Meyer, Minister for Economic Affairs, Infrastructure, Tourism and Labour.

Highlights in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern are the development of a small town railway station with Scrum-Lego in Wismar, the construction site tour Ludwigslust, the look behind the scenes of the railway plant in Rostock and the tour of Rostock's node such as Bramow or Goetheplatzbrücke. "On 15.09.2023, representatives of VMV-Verkehrsgesellschaft Mecklenburg-Vorpommern mbH and DB Netz AG will provide information on rail infrastructure projects at Rostock's main station. Visitors will have the opportunity to take part in numerous activities, such as a wheel of fortune and face painting for children. The VMV will provide information about state-wide tariff offers, seasonal services and the timetable offer in the state. Would you like to support the team of the building railway or the VMV as an ordering organisation? Then come and join us on Rail Day," says Daniel Bischof, Managing Director of the VMV.

In addition, railway fans can visit the Eisenbahnfreunde Wismar e.V. (Wismar Railway Friends) on Rail Day and see the railway museum under construction in the former Wismar railway depot. On site, the railway enthusiasts will show the collection of vehicles related to Wismar's railway history in various states of restoration. Among them are seven vehicles from the former railcar and wagon factory of Wismar AG.

The Mecklenburgische Bäderbahn Molli GmbH and the Borkumer Kleinbahn will present the Borkum railcar T1 (Wismar railbus "Schweineschnäuzchen") on both days at the locomotive shed. From 21.09.2023, this will also be in regular Molli service between Kühlungsborn and Bad Doberan for approx. 10 days.
